Pastoral Care

The purpose of the Pastoral Care Committee is to facilitate and organize the caring and connections in, among and between members of the congregation and the community at large.  The committee is made up of 6 or more people who all have an interest in caring for others, reaching out, helping people feel connected and providing a hospitable environment.

Anyone is welcome to join the Pastoral Care Committee in their effort to make the lives of others more enriched and comfortable.  Some of the things that the committee currently does are as follows:

  • Spiritual Companionship
  • Coordination of visits to hospitals, extended care facilities and shut-ins homes
  • Organizing regular contact with persons from the church via phone or visits
  • Deliver poinsettias (You’re in Our Thoughts program) at Christmas time to those unable to come to church, or who have had difficulty during the year
  • Inform Ministers of people requiring counseling or special care
  • Plan for any training or groups
  • Help coordinate special events such as the honouring tea
  • Track newcomers to the church and make them feel welcome, including organizing a luncheon for newcomers twice a year
  • Coordinate after-church coffee hour
  • Coordinate memorial teas for funerals
  • Help in organizing the annual “Blue Christmas” service for those who have lost loved ones throughout the year
  • Promote and support the Healing Ministry of CBUC
  • Create “Prayer Shawls” for those needing extra support
