All of these opportunities are on-going and can be done on an “if time permits” basis.
1) Garden Crew: If you enjoy gardening, we have a volunteer group that meets every Friday morning for a couple of hours of weeding, planting and trimming. Contact Gord and Pat Nichells at nichells@shaw.ca for more information.
2) Administrator’s Assistants: Meghan Thonger, our church administrator, often is in need of an extra pair of hands to assemble special documents, print bulletins, or complete other minor office tasks. Contact Meghan at meghan@cadbayuc.org if you can help. All training is provided.
3) Facility Maintenance Team: Do you like to pick up a paint brush, swing a hammer, or build a better mousetrap? If you’re a handy man or a handy woman, CBUC is a community that can always use your skills. Talk to Jim Pearce at 250-477-3761 or Mark Green at mark@cadbayuc.org.
4) Children’s Classes Volunteer Teachers: Every 4-6 weeks our church school is in need of a new group of volunteer teachers. In this way, we get to know the youngest members of church family and no one gets burned out by the responsibility of teaching every Sunday. Our ministers provide all the materials and the training- all you need do is come and share your creative energy and love for our children (3-11 yr.). We guarantee you’ll learn a lot about your Christian faith. And don’t worry-you don’t have to be a “real” teacher or a religious scholar! Contact Mark Green at mark@cadbayuc.org or Ross White at ross@cadbayuc.org.
5) Sunday Worship Team: If you would like to be added to our list of people who enjoy greeting people at the door as they enter into the Sanctuary on Sunday, or if you enjoy the spoken word and reading Scripture, contact Susan Draper at graceful@shaw.ca.
6) Casserole Club: This is a group of people that meets every Wednesday morning to put together a large casserole for Our Place. If you’d like to help with this local outreach initiative, contact Cheryl Peterson at jackep@shaw.ca.
7) Grandmothers to Grandmothers Group: This group of women is raising funds and awareness for the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. They offer fresh, home-baked muffins for sale on the last Sunday of the month after the worship service. The money raised is used to help grandmothers in Sub Saharan Africa raising grandchildren who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. If you’d like to contribute some muffins to this worthy cause, contact Gloria Malleson at malleson@shaw.ca.
8) Backdoor Recyclers: Did you know that CBUC recycles or composts almost all of the waste it produces? Every other week, the brown bins outside our kitchen’s backdoor need to be emptied and taken to the recycling depot. If you can help with this task, contact Eileen Campbell at ecchome@shaw.ca.
