Music

Music at Cadboro Bay United

Music is an integral part of the life of the Cadboro Bay United community.  Learning a new song during a Sunday morning service, sharing the joy of laughter and movement during an invigorating choral rehearsal, hearing the words to an old song in a new way with a different understanding, recalling a fond memory linked to a song and a person, all of these and more help shape our experiences on the journey toward the sacred.

Songs and melodies frame the weekly message from our ministers, refining the ideas and thoughts contained in the chosen scripture readings and enhancing the weekly and monthly themes that shape Sunday worship at Cadboro Bay United.  The human voice remains our primary instrument, but the piano, guitar, organ, cello, mandolin, djembe and even the bandura supplement and support our common voice.  The range of music is vast and varied, but always well presented, easy on the ears and close to the heart-strings.

Cadboro Bay United Church Choir

The most visible (and audible) group of volunteers at Cadboro Bay United is the choir.  This group of singers leads hymns and songs during Sunday services from September through June, and helps focus the theme of each Sunday’s message through their musical offering.  As well, the choir shares their music and song at concerts throughout the year, during special services, and in the community at local care centres and locales. Choir rehearses weekly on Thursdays from 7pm – 9pm, and meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30am to prepare for service.  Saturday morning workshops supplement our collective learnings and help build a vibrant and supportive community of singers.

We are a non-auditioned choir where all levels of experience are appreciated and encouraged. Drop-in weekly, commit to a season, or sing with us throughout the year – you will find your voice and friendship embraced by all. We also welcome dancers, instrumentalists and drummers to collaborate on unique aspects in services.
