This year, instead of having ‘family nite’ on a regular night every month, we have decided to mix it up a little to allow for families of all ages and stages of life to participate in a variety of offerings. More details for each of these activities will be on the church’s website, in the newsletter and in the Sunday announcements. You can call the office to clarify or ask questions. These are open to individuals and family groupings of all ages.
Oct. 1st, 2011 – Barn Dance –starting with a potluck dinner at 5:30p.m.; come join others as we eat. After packing up the dishes we have brought we will join in a floor stomping, roof raising experience of dancing to the live music of the Cadboro Bay Ramblers. These dances will be called and taught so that persons of all ages can join in together for a mighty fine time! Get into the spirit of the whole thing and come dressed in country wear. No registration required, come and enjoy the event!
Nov. 6th, 2011 – Ukulele Community Event – starting with a light lunch following the Sunday service and coffee hour, come join others as we learn the basics of the Ukulele. Together we will learn to play a few songs as a group. Renewed interest in this instrument is sweeping the nation and we hope to catch a bit of that spirit as we sing and play together in one voice. Dec. 10th, 2011 – Christmas Cookies, Crafts and Carols – come join us for an informal afternoon of baking and eating Christmas goodies. Make a few crafts and sing some carols. This is a time to visit, share stories of Christmas’ past and hopes for the future. Smells, sights and sounds of Christmas will all be present on this afternoon to share with your church family. Feb. 11th, 2012 – Guess who’s coming to Dinner??
5:00 – 8:00 p.m. A mystery dinner with a twist. Congregational members and families will have the opportunity to sign up to be either a host or a guest for a dinner party with others in the congregation – the twist is – the host will not know who is coming and the guest will not know who’s house they are going to until the last minute. Surprise, delight, laughter and deeper connection to others will surely result from this delightful evening. Feb 21st, 2012. – Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper – in the tradition of the early church, we will use up the butter and the sugar and feast together on pancakes for supper. Starting at 5:00 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. We will savor pancakes, sausages and fruit; then with tummies full head into the sanctuary for a short Lenten ritual of the burning of ashes and the beginning of Lent. No registration required.
April 14th, 2012 – Glow Bowling – put on your white runners and a white t-shirt and try your hand at bowling… families with children and teens are invited to join together in a not so serious tournament to acquire the coveted trophy in what we hope will be a new tradition. June 25th, 2012 – BBQ at Smugglers Cove – 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. – informal BBQ, where food is provided, atmosphere is relaxed and conversation flows freely. Bring a chair and a plate and enjoy your church family! No registration required, come and enjoy the night!
CADBORO BAY CHURCH FAMILY SPIRITUAL RETREAT
Date: Friday, June 1st to Sunday, June 3rd, 2012.
Time: 7:00 p.m. Friday till noon on Sunday
Place: George Pringle Memorial Camp on Lake Shawnigan
Cost: $55/person or $140/ family
Experience a good way to enjoy spring and get away for a weekend of rest and rejuvenation. Our time together will be a relaxed time of recreation, rest, some reflection and study, social time and community building.
Camp Pringle is equipped with dormitory style rooms, social areas and a large dining hall. Cost includes accommodation, food, and programs for the entire weekend. Each person will be asked to contribute to the snacks offered. Pre-registration is necessary and space is limited to 80 people. Register early and avoid disappointment. Closer to the date, a list of things to bring and a map will be provided for those registered.
CHURCH FAMILY PICNIC
Date: Sunday, June 10th, 2012.
Time: Following worship (12 – 2 p.m.)
A celebration and a chance to show appreciation to our Sunday School leadership. We will have a bar-b-cue lunch, (which is provided) and play some co-operative games on the front lawn. Come dressed casually and ready to play outside. Plan to stay and enjoy conversation, games and lots of laughter. No registration required.
