WHAT DO WE MEAN BY HEALING?
Healing is a process guided by God to restore harmony and wholeness of body, mind and spirit; not only within the individual but also within relationships, community and creation. It is our vision as a congregation to be a healing presence in our community.
WHAT IS THE HEALING PATHWAY MINISTRY?
The Mission of the Healing Pathway Ministry within the United Church of Canada is:
- to renew the Church’s role in healing
- to reach out to those in need of healing in body, mind and/or spirit
- to encourage its practitioners in their personal, God-centred healing journey.
The Healing Pathway teaches healing treatments, often simply called healing touch, as an additional means of broadening an inclusive Healing Ministry within the Christian community. With Jesus as the model, a healing treatment is offered as a respectful expression of love and compassion for those who are in need of healing of any kind. Christian healing is thought to be a gift freely given to all; anyone can act as a healing presence if that is their intention.
WHAT IS HEALING TOUCH?
Healing “touch”, which doesn’t have to include touching, is one form of the ancient art of “Hands-on-Healing” that is portrayed in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian New Testament. Through the Healing Pathway, a prayerful, God-centred approach, practitioners work either on the body or with the energy fields that surround us in order to smooth and rebalance them. These energetic changes can be experienced on a physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual level. The goal of the healing treatment is to restore harmony within the whole person. Thus, it can, but doesn’t necessarily mean a “cure”.
HEALING TREATMENTS HELP IN:
- Promoting relaxation
- Strengthening the immune system
- Increasing a sense of well-being
- Reducing pain
- Managing stress
- Speeding healing of soft tissues and bones
Healing touch is not an alternative form of healing so much as it is complementary to our secular, traditional approaches to health and healing. It is respectful, non-invasive, gentle, effective and economical.
If you are interested in becoming involved in this Christian Healing Ministry please inquire at the Church Office for information on the next Phase 1 that is being offered in our area.
